Causes of Bloated Stomach

The most common cause of a bloated stomach is constipation. If you’re not visiting the bathroom at least once per day, you’re constipated. All that backed-up waste matter in your intestines will cause you to have a distended abdomen that always sticks out over your jeans.
There’s a condition called gastroparesis that can cause bloated stomach. Gastroparesis or “delayed gastric emptying” is a condition characterized by stomach bloating, nausea, feeling full after just a little bit of food, sudden weight loss and loss of appetite.
Another common cause of bloated stomach is undiagnosed food intolerance.
Gluten intolerance, for example, can cause you to always feel bloated, no matter how little food you eat. I found out this was the cause of my bloated stomach. Gluten is a protein found in wheat, barley, rye and oats and those intolerant to it cannot digest the protein. Symptoms may include bloated stomach, abdominal pain, diarrhea, constipation, rashes and brain fog.
Lactose intolerance can also cause bloated stomach. Those with gluten intolerance do not have the enzymes to digest sugar in milk. This can lead to gas, nausea, stomach pain and bloating soon after eating.
If you suspect either food is the cause of your symptoms, remove all traces of it from your diet for a month and see if symptoms improve.
Contrary to what you may believe, parasites do not just affect people in impoverished countries. It’s estimated that over 50% of the United States population is infested with some type of parasite. Gross, huh? Symptoms of a parasitic infection vary widely but some common indications are:
